June 9, 1929: "It is planned to erect towers at the following points in the Randle district during July and August: Hamilton buttes, French butte and Sunrise butte. Fire finders will be installed in each tower." (The Sunday Oregonian)
August 23, 1929: "Mrs. James Green and son Gordon and Delmar Green returned last Wednesday from Cat creek where they had a week's vacation at Mr. Green's camp. They made several trips to the hills while there and had a fine time. Mr. Green is now packing a house to Sunrise lookout station which will be built soon." (Chehalis Bee-Nugget)

July 25, 1930: "Wm. Mackay went to Sunrise peak Friday to build a lookout station for the forest service. Frank Slagle is stationed there for the summer. He has been using a tent." (The Chehalis Bee-Nugget)
August 6, 1937: "The forest service headquarters at Portland reported the flames gained with a west wind last night and licked up more than 2,000 acres. A high fog today held out hopes of easier weather conditions, but the fire was by no means under control.
Rain started falling today, and the Randle ranger station said the moisture probably extended into the fire area.
The fire burned out a telephone line to Sunrise lookout southwest of the flaming area. The lookout is isolated, but not in danger." (Centralia Daily Chronicle)
July 29, 1955: "The U.S. Forestry Service, from its headquarters at Randle, has activated two forestry lookout points as ground observer posts. Duane A. Priebe, formerly of Seattle, is stationed at Sunrise lookout.
They report by radio all aircraft sighted over their areas to the Randle headquarters for relay to the Seattle Filter center." (The Daily Chronicle)
