July 22, 1911: "The trail from the Gibson wagon road to the lookout point on Funk Mountain was completed last Wednesday, a distance of about 2 1/4 miles.

October 26, 1957: "With the completion recently of a 99-day season on Funk mountain Mrs. Harry A. Gavin, Omak has served a total of 1171 days as fire lookout, the forest service reports.
Mrs. Gavin has put in 11 summers at this work, most of the time on Funk mountain north of Conconully. Conconully district ranger Don Caron said Mrs. Gavin is rated as one of the best lookouts on Okanogan national forest.
'It is through the sincere effort of such devoted people as Mrs. Gavin that our fire detection program operates so efficiently,' Caron commented." (The Spokesman-Review)

January 1, 1960: "Mrs. Mabel M. Gavin will receive a $100.00 cash award in recognition of superior service as a fire lookout, according to an announcement by W.J. 'Fritz' Moisio, supervisor of the Okanogan national forest.
Moisio said her citation reads 'For exercising unusual initiative and ability above and beyond the normal requirements of the job in the detection and reporting of fires on national forest land and other lands protected by the Forest Service' and that the award is in further recognition of thirteen seasons of outstanding performance as a lookout on Funk Mountain near Conconully, Washington."
