September 19, 1930: "Ellis Preston, lookout at High Rock, for the forest service, returned home the first of the week. Preston will leave in a few days for the apple orchards east of the mountains." (Centralia Daily Chronicle)
August 4, 1966: "A forest service employe at High Rock lookout in Mineral district spotted smoke to the south Wednesday.
Suspecting a forest blaze during dry conditions, he reported the smoke.
There was no fire. It turned out to be the smoke from a mill at Packwood.
'His vision was good,' said John Czemerys of Packwood ranger district. 'He spotted the smoke 12 or 15 miles away.' " (Centralia Daily Chronicle)
