September 15, 1932: "Forest rangers of the Naches country reported that 10 inches of snow fell last week at the Hawkeye lookout station, on the Upper Naches hill." (White Bluffs Spokesman)
September 10, 1956: "A sight seldom viewed by Lewis county residents is Hawkeye lookout station situated atop this 8,000 foot peak in the heart of the Goat Rocks wild area east of Packwood. Use of this lookout station was discontinued several years ago by foresters because its altitude is too high and the lookout's surveillance of the forest was too often obscured by low-hanging clouds."
