OBSERVATION PEAK
Gifford Pinchot National Forest

August 1924: "The daily, and twice daily patrol past this spot during the entire period of three months failed to detect it until it reached the ground after two days of low humidity, and started up the hill through green timber. Quick action and accurate location on the part of the lookout on Observation Peak, however, held it to a class A although the elapsed time from origin to end was 92 days and 23 hours. L.D.B." (Six Twenty-Six)
May 13, 1926: "A trail from the Government Mineral springs in the Columbia national forest near Carson, Washington, to Observation mountain, 6 miles distant, will probably be completed early in July, according to plans announced yesterday at the Columbia forest offices here by K.P. Cecil, supervisor.
The trail will facilitate access to the lookout on the mountain's summit, and should be very popular with tourists in the forest, according to officials here, because of the excellent view from the mountain." (Morning Oregonian)
August 18, 1934: "Wednesday seven women left their homes in Carson, went to the Government Springs hotel in the Columbia national forest near Hemlock, and then hiked 6 1/2 miles into the forest to the observation lookout near Wind river branch forest experiment station to be guests of Mrs. N.H. Crowell, wife of the man whose job it is during the summer to be on the watch for forest fires, at a bridge luncheon." (Morning Oregonian)
