June 9, 1918: "Skykomish lookout station on the summit of Cleveland mountain in the Snoqualmie National forest is to be manned by a woman this summer, Miss Mabel McBain, a school teacher and a member of the Mountaineers' club of Everett, according to S.G. Smith, forest supervisor of the Snoqualmie forest, who is spending a few days at the district forest office.
Miss McBain will live alone in a tent on top of the mountain, until the standard lookout station is erected there, with her telephone, her fire finder and other lookout equipment. She plans to have numbers of her friends come up from time to time and spend a few days with her." (The Oregon Daily Journal)
